Unite in Worship Conference Reflections Part 2 "Why Worship?"

From the session "Why Worship?" with Robin Mark

1) We where made for worship.
- The first act that we see the after the fall in Genesis chapter 4 ( the first book of the Bible) is a new generation Cain and Able bringing a offering before God. In Exodus chapter 20 God gives Moses the ten commandments. The first 4 are all about worship. 1)You shall have no other God's before me. 2) You shall not make you self any idol's 3) You shall not misuse the name of the Lord 4) Remember the Sabbath and the last one 10) You shall not covet your neighbours house or wife...
In Revelations (the last book in the bible) we read about John's vision of Heaven and all the other beings and angles that where created before man and they all worship God. Why would we be any different? The ten commandments speaks clearly to the fact that we were made for worshiping God and that if we don't worship Him than we will worship something else. So we where made for worship.

2) Worship is what it is all about.
- In the Gospel of Matthew 22:35-39 the question is asked of Jesus what is the greatest commandment. This question was asked by as the bible tells us a expert in the law. He knew the torah (old testament) inside out and backwards. Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. This strikes to the heart of worship. Above all things worship is loving God with everything you've got, passionately coming before God with our whole self as a living sacrifice.

3) Ownership
- God's owns us. Just as an artist who paints a painting. Once they sign it and it is theirs. No one can take it away from them. It does not matter how much it is sold for, or who's house it hangs in. It is the work of the artist and will always be.
The Bible tells us in Genesis chapter 1 that we are create in God's image he created us. as The prophet Jeremiah tells us God Knew us before we where born. God is the our creator and He owns us. We belong to God, that is why we worship.

4) For our own Good.
- For our own good? So does this mean I come to worship God so I can be filled and make it through the next week. NO! (not to say it won’t help, but it cannot be the main reason)
What this means is that God created us for worship, Jesus came so that we could once again return what we were made for. When we come to worship God/Jesus it is not so that we can receive and get the blessings for our good works and jobs well done for God.
We come to worship because it is what we where made for!
Blessings may come to us, but that is not why we worship. We come to worship because it is what we where created for it restores us to our intended purpose. When we worship God with our whole lives, we receive joy and purpose. When our hearts are right before God it is the process of righting what went wrong at the fall of creation. We worship God because He is God!

This is why we worship.

Unite in Worship Conference Reflections Part 1

What a refreshing weekend. I spent the weekend at the Unite in Worship conference Brampton. Not only where the speakers and music terrific but the church where the event was held was just as terrific. The Children's ministry area was like a jungle. literally, when you went into the kids ministry area the walls in the halls were painted floor to ceiling like a jungle, with animals and it had such a an excitement about it. Kids thrive on environments that are creative and exciting. What a place for kids to go to learn about the God of Creation. A place that screams loudly of the God of Joy and excitement.

WOW... what an environment to learn about the living God!
